i'm just like yogurt!

I'm just like yogurt -- very cultured! This weekend was awash with cultural activities (as opposed to my regular weekends, which mostly involve booze, porn and fried food).

I started early by going to a reading of Boomerang's on Friday night, where I was mere inches from getting splattered by wet bread (self-heimleich-maneuvered from the mouth of one of the actors). Exciting! So exciting, in fact, that I had to go home and lay on the couch for a while -- I was still sleepy from Wednesday's antics. I watched the Departed (and enjoyed it a great deal, thank you very much) and passed out early.

Saturday, though, was truly the day of adventure. I met up with Alex and we headed out to the Queens Museum to see the panorama (the city in miniature). Of course, the 7 train wasn't running, so we took a shuttle bus. Which only took forever. We finally got to Willits Point (aka way the hell out in Queens) and, ironically, the rest of New York.

Here's midtown:
And here's Alex, giving me the world (isn't he sweet?):
After Alex got yelled at for trying to take a picture outside the panorama (apparently they didn't want us to have proof of whether or not Robert Moses ignored Harlem) we got bored and left.

We figured out a way to avoid the shuttle buses on the way back, and got to Manhattan only to find that my favorite Thai restaurant, Red Garlic, was no more. Maybe they moved? One can only hope. Otherwise my dream of marrying those peanut dumplings will have to be postponed indefinitely.

Later, after dinner in this quasi-speakeasy booth at a sushi joint, we went to hear the St. Louis Symphony at Carnegie Hall. (I know! Super Culture Girl!) The best part was in the John Adams piece where they had four marimbas going at the same time! Four marimbas! It was like chocolate and peanut butter, all in one bite!

After all this culture, I had to spend a great deal of Sunday laying around.
